Our Story
Founders of The Diamond MVMT
At the heart of The Diamond MVMT are two visionaries — Jasper Reed and LaChanee Davis — creatives, leaders, and architects of a movement reshaping what it means to build legacy through dance.
Jasper C. Reed
Founder & Creative Director
Jasper C. Reed began shaping his impact in 2009 as Dance Coordinator for Proviso West High School’s Diamond Dancers, the auxiliary team for the school’s marching band. There, he cultivated a style rooted in the traditions of Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) while pushing toward industry-level execution.
In 2016, Reed founded The Diamond MVMT dance company to further elevate this movement vocabulary. After more than 14 years of creative directing in Chicago, he identified a critical gap in visibility, platforms, and resources for dance artists of color. In response, he launched The MVMT in 2022 to expand access to industry-standard training and performance opportunities.
A musician at heart, Jasper has played drums since sixth grade and also performs on piano and trumpet. He attended Central State University on a mellophone scholarship, performing in the marching band — an experience that helped shape his choreographic voice.
Today, Jasper leads with both structure and soul, creating spaces where Black expression is amplified and artistry remains intentional.
LaChanee Davis
Co-Founder & Executive director
LaChanee Davis is a Co-Founder and a driving force behind the MVMT’s expansion into Cleveland. A former Alabama State University Stingette and Cleveland Cavaliers dancer, she brings elite performance experience paired with powerful mentorship.
Known for her fierce yet nurturing presence, LaChanee consistently develops dancers who move with pride, poise, and purpose — helping bridge the gap between potential and power.
The Vision
Together, Jasper and LaChanee have transformed vision into vehicle — one that trains, uplifts, and exposes young people to the power of discipline, creativity, and community.
MVMT is not just a company — it is a culture, a family, and a force.
About MVMT
MVMT Spaces (501c3) is a dance organization dedicated to utilizing dance to build community, camaraderie, and connections among Black and Brown artists throughout the Midwest. We aim to captivate the dance industry and generate feasible career opportunities for aspiring dance professionals regardless of cultural background, racial inequities, or ethnicity.
Organization Objectives
Use dance and artistic performance to promote diversity, equity, and inclusion throughout the Midwest.
Provide support for aspiring dance artists through scholarships, education, and professional resources.
Coordinate events and programs aligned with the mission of the organization.
Generate career opportunities for aspiring dance professionals regardless of cultural background, racial inequities, or ethnicity.
What We Offer
Community Events
We host a variety of events centered around and highlighting the unique diversity of Midwest dance artists. One of the foundation’s most popular events is the MVMT Dance Festival (MDF). MDF is an annual event that unifies Midwest and Chicagoland dancers and ensembles on one stage, where they can freely express their style of movement publicly for the entire community to appreciate.
Dance Training & Masterclasses
We pride ourselves on the in-depth dance training we provide through our in-studio dance company and masterclasses, not just in the Midwest but across the country. The Diamond MVMT dance company provides a low-barrier safe space, for girls and women, to bond socially, release emotionally, and express creativity through various styles of dance. Originating in Chicago, The Diamond MVMT expanded to Cleveland, Ohio in 2019 in partnership with Buck Out Cleveland. This partnership also birthed Away Dance Camp (ADC) in 2022.
Aside from the devotion and development dancers within the company receive, we continue to offer community masterclasses taught not only by MVMT affiliated dance instructors, but professional dancers and choreographers as well. Ashley Everett, Kiira Harper, Kaylenn Harris, and Kayla Fardo are just a few dance industry choreographers and performers that have partnered with us to provide high quality training and exposure to attendees.
Accessibility to Resources & Connections
Our most valuable objective is to provide support for aspiring dance artists, including scholarships and access to education and professional resources. Our internship program is one way we develop creatives within our community and prepare them for real-life artistic experiences. In addition to real-world experience, we understand that real-world circumstances can hinder the continuation of dance training and growth within the arts. The Mine A Diamond is a scholarship program funded by the support of monetary donations and local grants to assist with providing financial support to dancers in families in need.
